Pokemon Gamma Emerald has entered Early Access, opening a new chapter for the project and replacing the old 2025 demo as the current playable release.
Early Access launched on August 15, 2026 and follows the main Hoenn journey from Littleroot Town through Mauville City.
This release is much more than an expanded version of Demo v3.1.0.
It represents the move from the old non-canon demo scenario into the main Pokemon Emerald adventure recreated for Gamma Emerald.

This Is Different From the 2025 Demo
Players who experienced Gamma Emerald’s original public demo will immediately notice a major difference.
The May 2025 demo followed a separate non-canon storyline involving a storm, shipwreck and mysterious island.
That release now belongs to Gamma Emerald’s earlier development history.
Early Access returns to the main Hoenn journey.
The current adventure begins around Littleroot and follows the familiar Pokemon Emerald progression while rebuilding its locations, events and systems for Gamma Emerald.
How Much of Hoenn Is Playable?
The current Early Access build runs from Littleroot Town through Mauville City.
The playable section includes the towns, routes and interiors along that part of the journey.
Three Gyms are available.
Total playtime is approximately 3–6 hours, depending on how much time you spend exploring, training and catching Pokemon.
Progression beyond Mauville remains under development.
Pokemon Can Follow You
Your lead or Ace Pokemon can travel alongside you in the overworld.
Following Pokemon make your current partner visible while exploring and add more life to the rebuilt Hoenn environments.
Day and Night Change the World
Gamma Emerald includes a full day and night cycle.
Some Pokemon encounters vary depending on the time, so visiting the same route at another time can lead to different encounters.
Berries Grow in Real Time
Berry planting uses the real-world clock.
The current system takes eight real-world hours for newly planted berries to grow.
HM Interactions Are More Convenient
Gamma Emerald removes the need to sacrifice regular moveslots simply to use HM-related overworld actions.
Once the appropriate functionality has been obtained, interacting with supported obstacles allows the relevant Pokemon in your party to perform the action automatically.
Hidden Items Reward Exploration
Hidden items are placed throughout the currently playable world.
Check suspicious tiles and areas carefully while exploring.
The Town Map Has Been Redrawn
The current build includes a hand-drawn town map created for Gamma Emerald.
Battles Have Been Rebuilt
Gamma Emerald uses a dedicated turn-based battle system.
Current battle features include:
- Abilities
- Held Items
- Weather
- Status effects
- Physical/Special split
- Familiar Pokemon battle rules
TMs are managed through the Change Move interface.
The current Early Access build supports single battles.
Double battles are not currently available.
Trainer Rematches
After earning all three currently available Badges, trainer rematches become available.
Visit the second floor of a Pokemon Center after obtaining the Stone, Knuckle and Dynamo Badges to access the rematch system.
Pokemon Storage
PC and Box storage functionality is available without requiring constant trips back to a traditional PC terminal.
Daycare and Game Corner
The Daycare is available in Early Access.
The Game Corner is also present, although some listed Pokemon may currently be unavailable.
P2P Pokemon Trading
Peer-to-peer Pokemon trading is included in the current Early Access build.
Players can trade Pokemon directly with friends and use trading to work on their collections together.
Keyboard and Controller Support
Both keyboard and controller input are supported.

The First Launch Can Take Several Minutes
Gamma Emerald compiles shaders during the first startup.
This can make the first launch take several minutes.
Allow shader compilation to complete before assuming that the game is frozen.
Known Early Access Issues
Early Access is still unfinished software.
Current known limitations can include:
- Slower area loading on lower-end hardware
- Hitching during some battle events on systems with limited RAM or slower storage
- A longer first startup during shader compilation
- Interface issues when constantly switching between mouse, keyboard and controller
- Other Early Access bugs
Save regularly while playing.
Is Gamma Emerald Available on Android?
There is currently no official Android version.
Unofficial APK files should not be confused with a supported Gamma Emerald mobile release.
Is Gamma Emerald Available on iOS?
There is currently no official iPhone or iPad build.
What About Mac and Linux?
There is currently no official native macOS or Linux release.
The current supported build is for Windows.

Development continues beyond the current Mauville endpoint.
