Pokemon Gamma Emerald Early Access is currently available as a standalone Windows game.
This guide covers everything needed to get started, including downloading the current build, extracting the files, launching the game, keyboard and controller controls, saving, current progression limits and basic troubleshooting.
Before You Start
Make sure your PC is reasonably close to the current requirements.

Step 1 — Download Gamma Emerald Early Access
Visit our current Download page:
Gamma Emerald Early Access Download
Choose either the Itch.io or Game Jolt Early Access download.
Do not use Demo v3.1.0 if you want the current Early Access game.
Step 2 — Extract the ZIP
After the download finishes:
- Open your Downloads folder.
- Find
gamma-emerald-ea-windows.zip. - Right-click the ZIP.
- Select Extract All.
- Choose where you want the game folder stored.
- Wait for extraction to finish.
Do not run the game from inside the compressed ZIP.
Step 3 — Launch Gamma Emerald
Open the extracted Gamma Emerald folder.
Run the included Windows executable.
The first startup can take noticeably longer than later launches.
First Startup and Shader Compilation
Gamma Emerald compiles shaders during the first startup.
This process can take several minutes.
If the game appears to be taking a long time to open on its first launch, allow the shader process to finish before closing it.

Playing With a Controller
Controller input is supported.
For the most consistent interface behaviour, avoid repeatedly switching between controller, keyboard and mouse during the same play session.
If you plan to play mainly with a controller, connect it before starting and use it as your primary input device.
Running
Hold Left Shift on keyboard or B on controller to run.
Fishing
Press F on keyboard or X on controller to use the fishing action when appropriate.
Opening the Menu

Saving Your Game
Save regularly while playing Early Access.
The current release remains in development, so occasional bugs or crashes are still possible.
Regular saves reduce the amount of progress you could lose if an unexpected issue occurs.
How Far Can You Play?
Current Early Access progression runs from Littleroot Town through Mauville City.
Three Gyms are currently available:
- Stone Badge progression
- Knuckle Badge progression
- Dynamo Badge progression
The game currently prevents further story progression after the completed Mauville section because later areas remain under development.
Trainer Rematches
After earning the Stone, Knuckle and Dynamo Badges, trainer rematches become available.
Visit the second floor of a Pokemon Center and use the rematch system to battle trainers again after completing the current story progression.
Pokemon Storage
Pokemon PC and Box functionality is available without requiring repeated visits to a traditional PC terminal.
Use the available storage interface whenever you need to reorganize your team or Boxes.
Basic Troubleshooting
Gamma Emerald Takes a Long Time to Open
The first startup may take several minutes because shaders need to compile.
Allow this process to complete.
A Route or Town Loads Slowly
Some areas can load more slowly on lower-end systems.
Give the game time to finish loading before assuming it has stopped responding.
The Game Pauses During a Battle
Brief hitching can occur on systems with limited RAM or slower storage during certain battle events.
Possible examples include:
- Starting a battle
- Switching Pokemon
- Attacking
- Receiving EXP
The Interface Becomes Confusing After Switching Controls
Avoid repeatedly switching between mouse, keyboard and controller.
Choose one primary input device whenever possible.
The Game Crashes
Restart Gamma Emerald and load your most recent save.
Because this is Early Access, saving frequently is recommended.
For reproducible bugs, keep details about what happened and any relevant game logs available when reporting the problem.
Can I Play Gamma Emerald on Android?
